On 22 May, Christie’s Hong Kong will once again turn the spotlight on a revered private cellar as it unveils ‘Iconic Wines from Joseph Lau – Part III’. Following the tremendous success of the initial two sales in 2022, this next chapter features over 200 exceptional lots and is expected to realise in excess of £3.4 million (HK$35 million).
Joseph Lau—one of Asia’s most influential collectors—has long been known for his discerning eye, spanning fine art, record-setting jewels, and most notably, an extraordinary cache of legendary French wine. This highly anticipated release offers collectors a rare chance to acquire from a cellar of impeccable provenance, especially those who missed out on the fiercely contested earlier instalments.
“Once again, the finest labels from Burgundy and Bordeaux take centre stage,” notes Francis Belin, President of Christie’s Asia Pacific. “With particular emphasis on world-class domaines and first growth châteaux, this collection reflects Mr. Lau’s vision and unwavering commitment to excellence.”
Among the Burgundy treasures is a significant selection of Henri Jayer, including vintages of Cros Parantoux from the 1980s through to 2001—many in magnum format. A number of these rare bottles originally appeared in Christie’s landmark 2012 sale, The Private Cellar of Henri Jayer.
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is another standout, represented by multiple cuvées and vintages—from Romanée-Conti and Montrachet to Richebourg and La Tâche, spanning the 1990s to 2010s. Additional highlights include whites from d’Auvenay and Leflaive’s Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet, and Bâtard-Montrachet.
Bordeaux collectors will also be well catered for, with every First Growth represented, alongside prestige Right Bank names such as Le Pin and Petrus. Notable formats include parcel lots and large bottles up to six litres of Lafite Rothschild.
Each bottle has been meticulously stored in Mr. Lau’s climate-controlled cellar and vetted by Christie’s wine experts before being relocated to Crown Wine Cellars for the auction. A bespoke sticker will accompany every bottle as certification of its extraordinary provenance.
